As a measure to ensure meat safety for consumers in the Greater Tamale Metropolis, the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has urged butchers to ensure safe and reliable meat supply to their customers in order to avoid meat poisoning.

The Assembly in a bid to ensure meat hygiene, has constructed an abattoir at Gulpe, a suburb of Tamale.

Speaking at a short ceremony to commission the abattoir, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Abu Takoro, emphasized that the Assembly remains committed to the development of the metropolis.

“The provision of hygienic slaughtering and meat handling facilities is essential for safeguarding public health as this will increase the demand for safe and quality meat.”

“As an Assembly, we remain committed to the provision and expansion of infrastructure which is critical in our developmental drive,” he said.

He urged the beneficiaries to ensure the facility is properly maintained.

“I urge you to ensure that the facility is put to good use to stand the test of time. As an assembly, we will keenly monitor the use of the facility,” the MCE warned.
