Tamale assault: Police pays medical bills of victims
The Ghana Police Service has facilitated and paid the total cost of medical treatment for victims assaulted by cops, leading to the interdiction of four officers in Tamale.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Acting Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, following a visit of the Northern Regional Police Command to the affected persons.
Led by the Regional Commander, COP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, the Police Administration expressed their apologies to the victims.
Additionally, the Acting IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, who spoke on the phone to the affected victims reassured them that the matter would be dealt with decisively.
The statement indicated that the action of the police administration was in addition to the psychological support provided them by a team of clinical psychologists sent from Accra.
The statement commended COP Bonga and his team for acting swiftly to deepen the cordial relations between the police and the community.
It also lauded members of the community for their cooperation even as they awaited the outcome of the disciplinary action.

In a related development, it said a group of angry youth on Saturday, September 25, embarked on an unlawful demonstration and vandalised the Police Divisional Headquarters building and Volta River Authority (VRA) Office in protest against the incident.
According to the police, the protestors threw stones and other objects toward the police station and, in the process, vandalised parts of facilities belonging to the police at Lamashegu and the VRA.
On this issue, the police said it would make sure that the culprits were arrested and brought to book.
Consequently, the police has cautioned the youth to desist from any act that might disturb the peace of the area and commended the chiefs and opinion leaders for their cooperation.
