Takoradi: Mother of two killed in road crash
A 36-year-old mother of two, Naomi Dadzie, has tragically lost her life after a commercial vehicle veered off its path and struck her at the Appollo Traffic Light in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region.
Naomi had been selling sachet water and soft drinks at the roadside, part of her daily effort to support her young family.
Eyewitnesses say the speeding driver appeared to lose control moments before the accident. Naomi was standing by her usual spot when the vehicle suddenly swerved toward her.
People nearby rushed to her aid, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Kwesimintsim Government Hospital. Her body has been placed in the hospital mortuary.
Some of her colleagues who witnessed the incident broke down in tears as they recalled how hardworking and cheerful she had been. Residents at the scene said they were deeply shaken by the manner of the collision and the severity of her injuries.
According to one eyewitness, the driver seemed overwhelmed when his brakes failed and was unable to avoid the impact.
“The driver had loaded in Takoradi and was heading towards Apowa. I saw that his brakes were not responding, and he appeared confused.
“In trying to avoid the cars ahead and the drainage by the road, he ended up striking the woman,” said Mensah Ntim.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Ambulance Service arrived to transport the victim and launched investigations.
Some passengers in the vehicle also sustained injuries and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Naomi leaves behind two children and a grieving husband.
