Take up fight against galamsey; help government – Journalists told
Veteran journalist, Cameron Duodo, has urged journalists to complement government’s effort at tackling illegal mining in the country citing the devastating effects of the menace on the environment as a major concern.
Speaking at the 13th Congregation of the Ghana Institute of Journalism in Accra last Saturday, Mr. Duodo argued that journalists can play a major role in tackling the menace by investigating and exposing galamsey operators.
He maintained that if stringent measures are not taken to protect our water bodies, major rivers such as the Ankobra and Tano river could be destroyed.
“Your water in the rural areas is being pilled off by galamsey operators and we are not perturbed,” he said.
He advised the graduating journalists to take up the fight and take stringent measures to use their only weapon, that is, the power of the pen to fight this course.
