Suspected thief lynched at Wa

A suspected thief has been lynched by some irate youth of Danko in the Wa municipality of the Upper West Region.

Information gathered indicates that Hanam, who was armed with a pair of scissors, attempted to rob a mobile money vendor but was unlucky and got apprehended by an angry mob.

 

He allegedly confessed to being a thief who wanted to rob the agent.

Some residents also identified Hanam as a serial criminal who roamed the region with others, stealing and robbing residents.

The mob tied his hands and legs and left him on a football field in the area after he was interrogated.

Later in the evening, some of the angry youth in the area went back and assaulted him.

He was beaten until he fell unconscious.

He was found dead on Monday, June 10, 2024.

A lighter and a pair of scissors were found on his body.

The police were informed, and the body has since been retrieved and deposited at the mortuary.

The law enforcement body has launched an investigation into the incident.

In a similar incident, a suspected robber was lynched at Chereponi in the North East Region.

A Benz bus carrying passengers from Tamale to Chereponi was attacked by two robbers around 8 pm on the night of March 27.

One of the robbers was caught and arrested by an off-duty police.

Narrating the incident, a reporter said, “The bus was travelling from Tamale to Chereponi, and a few minutes into the town, two robbers attacked the passengers and started taking their money and other valuables, and one police officer who was not in uniform arrested one of the robbers who was later lynched by some angry residents that gathered around the car.”

He added that “one of the robbers fired his gun, which fell, and so he ran away, and the body of the other one was taken to the police station.”
