Police have arrested a suspected ritualist at Kakpayili in the Northern Region over the ritual murder of two children,

He was picked up on June 29, 2024, after the decomposing bodies of the children were discovered in his house.

Three children went to play in the house of the suspect, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Madaha, on June 25, 2024, but only one returned home to the parents.

After several days without a trace of the other two children, the one who returned home was questioned, and he disclosed the location where he last saw them.

The family raised an alarm, and community members besieged the house of Alhaji Madaha on June 29.

They dragged the suspect to the palace of the chief in that area, where he denied all allegations levelled against him.

However, the case was reported to the police, and a search was conducted in his house.

The law enforcement body found the decomposing bodies of the two children, which were deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue.

The suspect was arrested but later granted bail as investigations proceeded.

But irate youth stormed his house on June 30 and set it ablaze.

Also, a friend of Alhaji Rahman, who, amid the brouhaha, brought out a rifle from his house to help Alhaji Rahman fight the crowd before his arrest, has also been arrested for illegally possessing a firearm.

Again, one person who led the crowd to torch Alhaji Rahman’s house has also been arrested.

All three are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile, the assemblyman for the Kakpayili electoral area, Alhaji Hafiz, who provided further details, said there were no missing body parts.
