Suspected MoMo vendor killer arrested in Savannah region

The Savannah Regional Police Command has apprehended one suspect in connection with the robbery and murder of a mobile money vendor, Benjamin Apuri, and one other victim at Pwalugu in the Upper East Region.

The suspect was arrested on April 8, 2025, at Mankarigu, a suburb of the North Gonja district of the Savannah Region.

During a press conference in Damongo, the Savannah Regional Police Commander, COP Samuel Winful, revealed that the suspect, Nuhu Mumuni, was arrested from his hideout at Mankarigu following an intelligence-led operation.

“The suspect, Nuhu Mumuni, who was on the wanted list of the Upper East Region police, was arrested on the 8th April, 2025, at his hideout at Mankarigu in the Savannah Region by the operational team,” COP Winful said.

It will be recalled that on March 3, 2025, a tragic incident claimed the life of Benjamin Apuri, a mobile money agent in Pwalugu, who was shot and killed during a robbery.

The assailants made off with an undisclosed sum of money.

In response to the crime, law enforcement has expressed its commitment to transferring the suspect to the Upper East Region for trial proceedings.

In light of recent events, COP Samuel Winful seized the opportunity to advise all mobile money vendors across the nation.

“They (vendors) should be very careful and know their surroundings. Any move seen around with any strange behaviour should be monitored and communicated to the police for action,” COP Winful advised.
