A man suspected of being part of a cable theft gang was lynched at Abogiri, a suburb of the New Juaben South Municipality in the Eastern Region.
The sad incident occurred on Thursday, June 27, 2023.
The deceased, whose name was mentioned as Abdul, was believed to be a student in his early 20s and a resident of Effiduase, also a suburb of Koforidua.
According to sources, the victim and two accomplices went to the community to allegedly steal service lines belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The criminals broke into two homes, cut the cables and stole them.
However, luck eluded them as some residents spotted them.
Upon sensing danger, two suspects fled the scene, abandoning Abdul, who had parked a tricycle, popularly known as Pragya and was suspected to be waiting to load their booty.
He was arrested by some angry youth, who tied him to a signpost, stripped him naked and lynched him. They also burnt the tricycle.
He allegedly died at the spot, and officers from the Koforidua District Police Command were called in to carry him away.
The victim is said to have confessed that they came to the area to steal cables.
A student bag containing books was retrieved from the tricycle.
Meanwhile, the police have launched investigations into the matter.
