Suspected cable thief electrocuted at Potsin

A yet-to-be-identified young man has been electrocuted during an attempt to steal cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Potsin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

Residents of the community found his body face down close to an electric pole near the Potsin T.I. Ahmadiya Senior High School.

According to the residents, they experienced sporadic power outages in the previous days.

While investigating the cause, the community discovered that some electrical cables had been stolen close to where the body was found.

A pair of pliers and a backpack containing some cables were found beside him, causing residents to suspect he was part of a group of individuals who stole cables belonging to the ECG.

The police have since begun investigations into the matter.

Meanwhile, the management of the ECG has been on a campaign against cable thieves whose increased activities in recent months are costing the company colossal losses and also affecting the power supply.
