Suspected armed robber burnt to ashes in Karaga
A man was set ablaze by an angry mob in the Northern regional town, Karaga, after allegations he was involved in a robbery at a mobile money centre.
The suspect was killed by some angry members of the community Thursday evening.
He was allegedly part of a gang of five armed men who had gone to the area on a robbery operation.
Graphic Online reported that the vendor, Mohammed Miftawu, said the incident occurred at about 7.30 pm on 17 December 2020.
The Northern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Bernard Baba Anangam, has confirmed the incident.
Reports gathered indicate that the assailants were on three motorbikes and started firing indiscriminately when they arrived at the mobile money centre.
The others managed to escape with the undisclosed amount of money they stole from Mohammed, but the motorcycle of the deceased failed to start.
An alarm was raised, and the youth in the area gathered in their numbers and apprehended the suspect.
He was beaten up mercilessly after which his body was torched.
The Northern Region has recorded several cases within the year, including one in which a police officer was an accomplice.
