Supreme Court dismisses another application to halt Amenfi Central election
The Supreme Court has quashed an application for an interim injunction that sought to stop the Amenfi Central parliamentary election from proceeding on Saturday, December 7.
The plaintiffs, in a case at the Sekondi High Court against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Joana Cudjoe Gyan, filed a certiorari application at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, December 4.
They are seeking to overturn the decision that lifted the injunction against both the party and the Electoral Commission (EC).
Justice Yonni Kulendi, the only judge assigned to the case, heard the ex parte application on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
He dismissed the application, permitting the Amenfi Central election to proceed as planned.
The plaintiffs’ latest application follows a ruling by the Sekondi High Court, which on Monday, November 11, 2024, set aside the injunction that had prevented Joana Gyan Cudjoe from contesting the parliamentary election.
This decision came after the NDC requested the court lift the injunction on its candidate and dismiss the disqualification case.
One of her lead counsels, Edudzie Tamakloe, had urged the court to expedite the hearing of her disqualification.
The case was presided over by His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh.
