Supporting #KenMustGo campaign resulted in my downfall – Adomako Kissi
The Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, has attributed his defeat in the recent New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Primaries to his endorsement of the popular ‘Ken must go’ campaign.
Advocating for the removal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta amid the nation’s economic challenges, Dr. Adomako faced defeat in the primary, losing to Emmanuel Tobbin with a vote count of 818 to 566.
In an interview with Citi FM on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Dr Adomako suggested that while his support for the campaign could have been a factor, other circumstances likely contributed to his electoral defeat.
“I think that there were many factors. One that comes to mind is you know having a dissenting mind. What I mean by that is there have been several cases that I had with a dissenting mind and I think that it may have contributed.
“For instance, I am one of the few who stood initially, for Ken must go’. I wouldn’t say that is the one key reason but I think it may have contributed,” Dr Adomako said.
In 2022, some NPP parliamentarians demanded the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister.
The MPs, held a press conference to impress on the President to relieve Mr Ofori-Atta of the responsibility of managing the national purse or risk losing their support for government business going forward.
The National Democratic Congress also lodged a censure motion for his removal, citing factors like gross incompetence and conflict of interest.
When it was time to vote to remove him from his position, the Majority staged a walkout, amidst claims that they had been whipped in line to back down on their demand.
