Supporters union leader predicts disastrous Africa campaign for Kotoko

Kumasi-based football giant, Asante Kotoko was recently selected by the Ghana FA to represent Ghana at the next  CAF Champions League tournament.

But the spokesperson of the club’s supporters group, Alexander Osei Owusu has predicted doom for the club should they participate in the tournament organised by CAF for elite clubs in Africa.

He believes the current form of the Porcupine Warriors is not good enough to to battle out with other top-flight clubs on the continent.

According to Osei Owusu, the outcome will be disgraceful and disastrous if the club accepts to compete on the ticket of Ghana in the CAF Champions League.

“The current state of the team (Kotoko) is not in good shape. We will be exposed by the North African teams. I will agree with those calling for our withdrawal if there will be no punishment from CAF,” Osei Owusu told Kumasi-based radio station OTEC FM.

“The team should be well prepared and come out solid. The board should take this opportunity to appeal to Manhyia on the one-year player ban. This team is not in good condition for Africa or a new season,” he added.

“A player like Richard Arthur will score only 1 goal if given the opportunity to play 30 matches. It will be a disaster if Kotoko represent Ghana in Africa with this team [squad],”

The news came in after the Ghana Football Administration at an Executive Meeting cancelled the 2019/2020 league season amidst the Covid -19 pandemic, as a result, teams that represented Ghana in the CAF inter clubs competitions last year were once again chosen to do so this term.

Asante Kotoko had a disastrous campaign in the CAF inter-club competitions last season.

Meanwhile, owner of the Ghana Premier League giants, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has imposed a one-year transfer ban on the club.
