#SuperClash: GFA reject Hearts of Oak request to admit more fans against Kotoko

The Ghana Football Association has reiterated that only 25 per cent of football fans will be admitted at the Accra Sports Stadium for the Super Clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko on matchday 31 fixture of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

This follows the football governing body rejection of a request by Accra Hearts of Oak to admit fans of up to 70% capacity for the upcoming league fixture on Sunday.

COVID-19 restrictions have allowed clubs to admit only 25% of stadium capacity for league games in the country but the Phobians wrote to the GFA and the National Sports Authority asking to be given special dispensation to admit nearly three-quarters of capacity for the crucial game.

Communications Director for Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo confirmed the Phobians’ request had been shut down, describing it as unfortunate.

“Unfortunately, when we met today at the stakeholders meeting, we were told to stick with the 25% capacity”. He said in an interview.

“Having more fans at the stadia would have been something the game because when you look at where football has reached in the league, having more fans would have a lot more edge and interesting bite to the game but it was rejected because of the scare of the Coronavirus pandemic but we are ready to work with everyone involved during and after the game to ensure fans are safe”. He added.

The Ghana FA, National Sports Authority, and the various stakeholders met on Tuesday at the Media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium to make preparations for Category A-game and ensure the game go as planned in a peaceful manner.

The two clubs are also in the race for this season’s Ghana Premier League and there are measures been put in place to ensure the game go as planned in a peaceful manner.

Hearts of Oak and Kotoko are in the race for this season’s Ghana Premier League title and are level on points at the top with 5 games to the end of the season.
