Suame magazine mechanics protest sudden eviction
Tension has gripped the Suame Magazine Zone 13 industrial area at Tafo in Kumasi after mechanics protested what they call an unlawful and unannounced eviction from their workshops.
The usually busy industrial zone turned chaotic when workers arrived early in the morning to find their workspaces barricaded by unknown individuals.
The lack of prior notice or explanation left many confused and angry, prompting an immediate protest that soon drew a large crowd of affected artisans.
Security forces, including police and soldiers, were later deployed to control the situation. Their intervention led to the arrest of several protesters, further fuelling frustration among the mechanics who insisted they were being unfairly treated.
The identity of the individuals behind the barricades remains unknown, although some sources suggest the action was carried out by a private developer following a court ruling in his favour.
However, most of the affected artisans say they were never informed of any court decision or eviction notice before the latest development.
As of now, the atmosphere at Zone 13 remains tense with a visible security presence as authorities work to restore calm and prevent further clashes.
