Member of Parliament for Adaklu Constituency, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has described the attack on the majority leader, Kyei Mensah-Bonsu by artisans of Suame Magazines as a hoax.
The angry artisans on July 18, 2022, pelted sachet water at the member of parliament over the poor state of their roads.
The majority leader had visited the area to check the progress of the Suame Magazine ECOWAS road.
It took the intervention of his bodyguards and the police to get him to safety and control the irate crowd.
However, Mr. Agbodza, the ranking member of the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament, has described the incident as a hoax, he has, therefore, asked Ghanaians to ignore the incident.
He alleged that it was a plan by the ruling party to get parliamentary approval to build the Suame interchange.
“Ignore the so-called demo at Suame regarding bad roads. It was planned and executed by the NPP to fast track the approval of millions of euros to build a 4-tier interchange at Suame,” the tweeted on 19 July 2022.
In the interim, the government has laid the commercial agreement for the construction of the Suame Interchange and ancillary works before parliament, barely a day after the attack on the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.
The agreement was laid by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Abena Osei-Asare and it has been referred to the Finance Committee of Parliament for consideration.
Speaking to the media, after the agreement was laid before parliament, the MP for Adaklu said that government cannot rush parliament to give approval in a few days instead of a week.
He also called on the IGP to arrest the Suame protestors, in the same manner, they went after the MP for the Madina Constituency for a similar incident.
