The Suame Constituency Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress has been remanded in police custody.

Razak Kuampa Avoliya was hauled before the Asokwa District Court on Thursday, February 9.

The accused was arrested following an investigation into a viral video urging members to unleash mayhem on New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He was charged by the police with offensive conduct as described in section 207 of the criminal code.

Counsel for the accused, Evans Amankwaah, urged the court to grant the accused bail.

But the prosecution led by ACP Kofi Blagodzi disagreed on grounds that investigations were still ongoing.

He insisted the release of the accused might cause anarchy considering the magnitude of his “hate speech” on Sunday when he granted a local media audience during an event.

After listening to the parties, trial judge Fred Obikyere turned down the bail application raised by the defence team and adjourned the case to February 14.

Earlier, there was heavy police presence as some supporters of the accused thronged the court premises to show their support.
