A 20-year-old student of the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in the Northern Region, Abubakari Abdul Majid, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a fellow student.
Majid claims he took a gun from another student and posed for pictures but he accidentally discharged it, injuring 20-year-old Abdullah Abdul Somed in the arm.
Majid named two other students as owners of the gun.
The suspect, a final-year student, was handed over to the police by school authorities led by Senior Housemaster Moses Amegatse
He is currently assisting the police with the investigation.
Meanwhile, the victim is currently receiving medical attention at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Investigations are underway to locate the remaining individuals involved and to retrieve the gun.
The incident has sparked concern about student safety and the presence of firearms on school premises.
