A memorable photo the Ghana Report cannot turn away from.
A group photo showing former President John Agyekum Kufuor in the middle and flanked from left to right are Dr. Yaw Osafo Maafo, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Mr. Victor Selormey, and Mr. Dan Botwe with Mr. Kwamena Bartels squatting in front of those standing. At that time the NPP was in opposition.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah was the Minister of Education and Mr. Victor Selormey, the Deputy Minister of Finance at the time. The picture was taken just after the then président Flt Lt Jerry Rawlings had delivered the 1999 State of the Nation in parliament. In the next elections in 2000, John Agyekum Kufuor came victorious. All his party men in this photo became ministers of state. The two figures of NDC got different fates in the Kufuor era.
Spio-Garbrah’s bid to become the Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation in London was supported by the Kufuor administration. However, Mr Selormey was convicted in a case and jailed. He died in 2005 shortly after an amnesty by President Kufuor.
