Stella Seal Blasts Obaapa Christy Over Poster Brouhaha
Two of Ghana’s prominent gospel stars, Stella Aba Seal and Obaapa Christy, appear to be at loggerheads over a concert poster blunder.
Obaapa Christy has allegedly added Stella’s image to a flyer for her 20th Anniversary show
without her permission. Earlier reports alleged that she did that to honour her and other senior colleagues who were featured on the flyer.
However, Stella, in a response, described her decision as an insult to her.
“I was even outside the country. Just imagine a grown woman like me who has laid the foundation for you. I just said that I didn’t know anything about it, so I have taken myself out of it. I never said her programme was fake. That particular flyer, Tagoe Sisters, who have been advertised, has a show on the same day at Akosombo,” she told Ola Michael on Neat Fm in Accra.
“Personally, it is an insult, it is an insult to put me on a ticketed show without my concern. You are taking money and deceiving my lovers. Someone will purposely attend the programme because they want to hear my timeless songs or Daughters of Glorious Jesus and Tagoe Sisters. We, the older generation of singers, have a different clientele and just imagine them coming to the show and feeling disappointed because they didn’t see us. You lied to the public, and it will go bad against me. I am speaking for myself…I, Yaa Henewaa, do not like that.”
“What the hell! How can you celebrate your veterans and be this rude and disrespectful,” she queried.
“This goes to all stakeholders, pastors, bishops, archbishops, programme organizers, choirs, whoever you are. Do not put my picture on a flyer without my permission,” she added.
Obaapa had allegedly apologised to Stella for not seeking permission from her before going ahead to use her image in promotional material for her concert.
However, Stella wasn’t pleased with the tone of Obaapa Christy’s apology.
According to the ‘Gyem Taataa’ crooner, she was appalled listening to how rude Obaapa Christy sounded with her choice of words.
“I don’t even have time for junk. She claimed that some veteran musicians with whom she equally used their photos without permission called to thank her. She added that she intended to honour me; is that how to honour a mother? She stated that if I claim she has offended me, then sorry. Is that how to apologize?”
“Throughout the interview, she didn’t even mention my name but kept on referring to me as ‘that woman. What sort of uncivilized language is that?
Get someone to nurture you, you need enlightenment because your words represent you.
The words of your mouth ensnare you. We can judge who you are from how you talk,” Stella fumed.
“She (Obaapa) claimed I put my numbers out there just to trend, adding that it will help me. She is a child. The reason I don’t want to take it to heart. This shows her background and where she comes from. Maybe she didn’t have that kind of training. I don’t know.”
“She never called after I put out that release. She claims that I might record our phone conversation, and that’s why she hasn’t reached out to me. It was just today that I listened deeply to her interview, the reason I am speaking with vim,” she added.
