State funeral for helicopter crash victims scheduled for August 15

President John Mahama has announced a state funeral for the eight individuals who lost their lives in the tragic Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, August 15, at Black Star Square in Accra.

The event is expected to bring together government officials, military personnel, and citizens to pay their final respects.

In a national address from the Jubilee House, the President also revealed that an Evening of Reflection and Memorial will be held on Saturday, August 9, at 5 p.m. at the forecourt of the State House.

“These fallen heroes gave their lives in service to the nation. We must honor their legacy with the dignity and respect they deserve,” President Mahama said.

To allow the public to express their condolences, Books of Condolence will be opened from Sunday, August 10, to Thursday, August 14, at several locations.

These include the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters, National Democratic Congress headquarters, and the head office of NADMO.

The victims included key government figures such as Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

They were among eight individuals on an official assignment when their Z-9 Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

Meanwhile, the nation continues to grieve their loss, and the upcoming ceremonies aim to reflect the depth of appreciation for their dedication and sacrifice.
