The Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, is advocating for a comprehensive and bipartisan approach to discussions on the sale of state lands and other assets.
He emphasized that politicizing the issue would hinder progress and detract from its significance.
Mr. Jinapor highlighted that the sale of state lands is a longstanding issue spanning several administrations.
He urged for a meaningful, substantive dialogue on the preservation and administration of the nation’s public lands.
Acknowledging President Akufo-Addo’s initiatives in addressing the matter, he underscored the necessity of collective action.
The minister who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Damongo, noted that the sale of state lands has occurred under previous governments as well.
He argued that while not all public lands can be utilised, any lease or sale should be in the best interest of the Ghanaian people.
“We should limit this issue to finger-pointing because if we do, we will lose the essence of the discussion. We are at a cabinet retreat at Peduase and this matter has been discussed in three previous cabinet meetings, and we took a great deal of time to exhaust the subject,” he stated on Joy News on July 20.
His comments follow North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s recent campaign against the sale or lease of state lands.
The NDC MP is spearheading a private members’ bill to halt the practice.
