Manchester United manager Michael Carrick remains confident that his side can turn their season around despite a mixed start to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
United have collected four points from their opening three matches, suffering a 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City before responding with a convincing 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town.
They were then held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Everton after conceding a stoppage-time equaliser.
Carrick, however, believes there have been enough positive signs in United’s performances to suggest that better results are coming.
Speaking after the Everton draw, the former United midfielder admitted that the team could have made a stronger start but insisted that the situation was not as concerning as it may appear.
The manager pointed to United’s performance at Everton, where they twice took the lead but failed to hold on to all three points.
Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring before Benjamin Sesko restored United’s advantage late in the game. Everton eventually levelled through Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ spectacular stoppage-time strike.
Carrick acknowledged that United must become more disciplined defensively, particularly when protecting leads.
The team have conceded six goals in their first three league matches, making defensive improvement one of the major areas requiring attention.
Despite that concern, Carrick remains encouraged by the attacking quality and overall performances against Ipswich and Everton.
He believes United are showing enough promise and expects the team to improve as the season progresses. The arrival of new midfielders during the summer, including Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, has also strengthened Carrick’s options.
