Sports Minister to review GFA’s revised match day protocols after Nsoatre fatal stabbing

Ghana’s newly appointed Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, will review the revised match day safety protocols drafted by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the fatal stabbing of an Asante Kotoko supporter during a league match.

Adams, who assumed office on February 10, 2025, convened an urgent meeting with GFA officials to address stadium security concerns and outline measures to prevent future tragedies.

The discussions centered on the February 2 incident at Nana Koramansah Park, where a fan died during a clash between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC.

GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo confirmed the incident is being treated as a criminal investigation, with the association cooperating fully with authorities.

A statement on the Ministry’s page said, “According to the General Secretary, the GFA after engaging all its stakeholders have drafted an enhanced safety protocols for the various match venues and this will be made available to the Hon. Minister for his input and subsequent implementation.”

Adams directed the ministry’s Chief Director and GFA to audit all league venues, suspending those failing safety standards.

He also mandated an expanded “Say No to Hooliganism” campaign by the GFA targeting fans, players, and officials.
