The Kaneshie District Court has granted GH¢20,000 bail to the Spokesperson of The New Force, Shalimar Abbiusi.
The 30-year-old Belgian national was hauled before the court on charges related to the alleged falsification of documents to obtain a resident permit in Ghana.
Her arrest follows an invitation from the Head of the National Enforcement Section at the Immigration Headquarters to address concerns related to her immigration status in Ghana.
Abbiusi’s activities came under the Immigration Service’s scrutiny after she publicly declared herself as The New Force’s spokesperson via social media.
Among other things, the viral video highlighted the suffering of Ghanaians under the Akufo-Addo administration using recent demonstrations to question the role of leadership in addressing the concerns of the citizenry.
Investigations revealed that she entered Ghana in 2017 and claimed residency in 2018, citing her alleged admission to the Ghana Christian University College.
However, inquiries with the college disclosed that Abbiusi had never been a student, and the documents supporting her residence permit application were found to be forged.
She has since pleaded not guilty to the said allegations.
As part of her bail conditions, she is expected to report to the immigration officers three times a week.
The prosecution has also been directed to hold on to her passport until the final determination of the case.
Supporters of The New Force thronged the court premises to support their spokesperson.
Wearing the movement’s colours, they held placards and chanted slogans supporting Abbiusi.
The case has been adjourned to December 19, 2023,
