The Ghana Immigration Service has revoked the residence permit of Shalimar Abbiusi, spokesperson for the New Force.

According to the Immigration Service, the Belgian is scheduled to be repatriated later today, December 19, 2023, as her continuous stay in Ghana is illegal.

The 30-year-old Belgian national was arrested following an invitation from the Head of the National Enforcement Section at the Immigration Headquarters to address issues over her immigration status in Ghana.

She was later hauled before court on charges related to the alleged falsification of documents to obtain a resident permit in Ghana.

She is said to have violated section 52 (1) (i) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573), specifically “Obtaining for Yourself a Student Permit by False Declaration”.

On December 11, 2023, the Kaneshie District Court granted GH¢20,000 bail after she pleaded not guilty.

At her appearance in court today, the state prosecutor dropped all charges against her.

However, Immigration officers rearrested her immediately when she stepped out of the court and whisked her away.

This caused commotion between her legal team and the officers.

Her parents, who accompanied her to the court were seen shedding tears as they took her away.

Shalimar Abbiusi came under the Immigration Service’s scrutiny after she publicly declared herself as The New Force’s spokesperson via social media.
