Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has indefinitely adjourned parliamentary sitting due to a lack of business for lawmakers to address, following the Business Committee’s failure to convene and set an agenda.
The session initially recalled at the request of the NPP Caucus in Parliament, was expected to address several pressing issues.
However, the absence of the NPP Caucus in the Chamber today, October 7, prompted Speaker Bagbin to express his disappointment, noting that their lack of attendance had stalled the proceedings.
In his address, Speaker Bagbin outlined the procedural issues hindering progress, emphasizing that without the Business Committee’s input, the House could not proceed.
He stressed the need for greater collaboration between the Majority and the Minority caucuses to ensure an effective legislative process, especially given the urgency of several national matters.
This adjournment adds to the growing tension between the caucuses, which has disrupted parliamentary work in recent weeks.
With no set date for reconvening, the legislative agenda remains uncertain, leaving key issues unresolved.
Two weeks ago, both NDC and the NPP MPs occupied the majority side of the House amidst ongoing confusion over which party holds the majority.
It came after Speaker Alban Bagbin declared four vacant parliamentary seats on October 17.
