President John Dramani Mahama says he has directed that individuals implicated in the National Service Scheme (NSS) scandal be declared wanted and their assets frozen as part of efforts to hold officials accountable.
Speaking during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament (SONA) on Thursday, February 27, he reiterated his commitment to ensuring justice, stating, “I have directed that culprits be declared wanted and their assets frozen.”
The scandal, involving a fraudulent payroll scheme, has already led to multiple arrests.
Over the weekend, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) detained Yaw Danso, an accountant at the National Service Authority (NSA), concerning the use of ghost names on the institution’s payroll.
His arrest follows that of Kwaku Ohene Gyan, the former Deputy Director of Operations at the NSA, who was taken into custody on February 22, 2025.
Meanwhile, authorities are intensifying their search for Gifty Oware-Mensah, a former Deputy Executive Director of the NSA.
Investigations into the scandal revealed that the fraudulent scheme has led to significant financial losses for the state, prompting investigations and the arrest of several high-ranking officials.
Yaw Danso is currently in NIB custody, where investigators are interrogating him regarding his role in the payroll fraud.
Security agencies continue to probe the matter, with more arrests expected in the coming days.
