“Some of our members have gone mad” – Aggrieved Menzgold Customers
The spokesperson for the Aggrieved Menzgold Customers group, Fred Forson, has disclosed that due to their locked-up funds, some members are mentally unstable.
Menzgold Company Limited, a gold-dealership firm, where they invested huge sums of money, have collapsed for more than five years now.
While the CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM 1) is standing trial, customers have been unable to retrieve their funds.
According to the convener, most affected members face severe financial challenges.
He added that they will continue to protest and demand for their locked-up funds.
“Menzgold customers are struggling. We have almost 50 platforms. Customers are crying and complaining about economic difficulty. Some have diabetes and kidney issues. Others are blind. Some of them are on the streets and have gone mad. I personally know some of the people who are on the streets and have gone insane. So, if there are those who do not feel empathy for us, they do not deserve to be part of our governance structure. What is going on is a symptom of a democracy in crisis,” he voiced out.
He added that they remain optimistic about retrieving their locked funds, and nothing will stop them from doing so.
According to him, the government has shown no commitment to resolving the issue, citing discrimination because customers of another investment firm, Gold Coast Funds, had received some support.
Meanwhile, the Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold has submitted a petition to the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice to investigate the reported sale of frozen properties of Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM1, the Chief Executive Officer of the defunct company.
The petition raises questions about the alleged sale of properties formerly owned by NAM1 which were confiscated by law enforcement agencies, including the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The coalition is calling for an investigation into alleged sales despite a court order to confiscate the properties.
The properties listed in the petition and alleged to have been sold include Zylofone Media/Zylofone Arts Complex, Brew Marketing Consult at Kasoa Ofaakor and Richester Hotel, located at East Legon in Accra.
The petition added, “As customers, we are appalled by this act of impunity on the part of NAM1 and Menzgold and alarmed by the alacrity with which these properties are being sold”.
