Soldier allegedly shoots policewoman on lockdown duties

A soldier on COVID-19 duty in Tema New town has allegedly shot a policewoman whom he was on duty with.

It is unclear what triggered the shooting but the incident happened on Thursday morning when the two security officers were discharging their duties, the Daily Graphic reported.

The policewoman, a lance corporal, is said to have sustained injuries on the lower part of her leg and was rushed to the Tema General Hospital, where she is responding to treatment.

The soldier has also been detained at the Tema Naval Base and investigations into the incident has begun.

Soldier accused of killing civilian at Ashaiman withdrawn from duty post

A middle-aged man was last-week shot dead by a military officer in Ashaiman.

The military, in a statement, said the man died after a soldier’s weapon discharged accidentally.

“The civilian was being arrested on suspicion of indulging in illegal conduct contrary to the Narcotics Act. Initial reports are that the suspect in resisting arrest attempted to disarm the soldier leading to a struggle during which the soldier’s rifle accidentally went off.”

“The suspect sustained life-threatening injuries and while being conveyed to the hospital for medical attention unfortunately passed on. The body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra.” a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces read.
