The house-help who brutally murdered his boss and sold her KIA Sportage vehicle has been sentenced to 20 years for stealing.

The accused, Allister John, pleaded guilty to stealing over GH¢167,000 from a hotel owner in a theft case before the Asokwa Circuit Court, where he worked as a receptionist.

The 22-year-old was convicted to 20 years each on two counts of stealing, but the sentence is to run concurrently.

According to the prosecution led by ASP Stephen Ofori, Allister was employed as a hotel receptionist in 2022 but unexpectedly stopped going to work after a month.

In July 2023, he returned to the complainant to seek employment for the second time, and the complainant hired him due to their previous working relationship.

On August 6, 2023, the complainant gave Allister her Infinix Note 8 mobile phone to assist with some settings.

However, Allister fled with the phone and withdrew GH¢167,660 from the complainant’s ABSA Bank account using the mobile app.

Fearing for her safety, the complainant reported the incident to the police, leading to Allister’s arrest at his hideout in Accra.

In delivering her judgment, the trial judge Vida Yeboah, said she considered the fact that Allister had no prior convictions and took into account his age.

Despite Allister John’s tearful plea for a reduced sentence, the court upheld its ruling, and he was subsequently taken into police custody for imprisonment.

It will be recalled that the convict and his accomplice, James Anokye, became publicly known after they allegedly murdered and dumped the body of a 35-year-old businesswoman Princess Afua Aheanka at Sokoban-Apaaso near Kumasi.

The murder case is still before the Asokore Mampong District Court.

The other three suspects, who are currently at large, are Collins, a driver in Accra, Biggy, and one Christian Obu.
