Six UG learning centres unaccredited — GTEC
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has released a public notice after discovering that six University of Ghana (UG) Learning Centres are functioning without proper accreditation.
They cautioned that any qualifications obtained from these centres will not be acknowledged for employment, further education, or promotion.
In a statement dated Tuesday, December 2, 2025, and signed by Dr Emmanuel Oware Nyarko, the Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, he urged prospective students, parents, and employers to confirm the accreditation status of any tertiary institution or learning centre before enrolment or hiring.
GTEC has also instructed 11 institutions to promptly halt new admissions until they fulfil the necessary accreditation criteria.
These institutions comprise the Institute of Business Management and Journalism (Kumasi), Rural Development College (Kwaso), University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (Bunso), Kings and Queens Medical College (Akosombo), Springs College (Labone), among others.
Additionally, 26 institutions, such as Abbeam Institute of Technology (Kasoa), Lakeside University College (Accra), ILMA Institute of Science and Technology (Accra), Presbyterian Nurses’ Training College (Bawku), and Holy Spirit College of Education (Ho), have been identified as having lapsed institutional accreditation.
GTEC emphasised that attending unaccredited institutions poses considerable risks, including wasted time, financial losses, and compromised career opportunities.
The Commission stated that this notice is part of its initiatives to safeguard the public, ensure quality assurance in higher education, and avert misinformation and exploitation within the sector.
