A fire outbreak has claimed the lives of six family members at Axim in the Western Region.
The fire, which occurred on Wednesday morning, engulfed a residential building, spreading rapidly and killing three people instantly.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing desperate cries for help as the flames consumed the structure, offering little chance of escape.
Firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze, and the victims were rushed to the Axim Government Hospital for treatment of severe burns and smoke inhalation.
Catherine Afeku, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Evalue Gwira constituency, had facilitated arrangements to transport the seriously injured to the 37 Military Hospital, but unfortunately, they died despite efforts to airlift them to Accra for further treatment.
The victims believed to be a father, mother, and their four children, died at the Axim Government Hospital.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
The incident occurred on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
According to eyewitnesses, Sam lived alone in his room without electricity, making it unclear what could have caused the fire.
Despite a swift response from firefighters, they faced challenges in extinguishing the blaze due to the faulty state of the Sawla District fire tender, which had been out of commission for over a month.
Firefighters were forced to use motorcycles to reach the scene and rely on water from nearby homes to douse the flames.
