She will always be our hero – Grandchildren honour Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

The grandchildren of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, paid a touching tribute to her during her funeral in Accra on Friday, speaking lovingly about the woman who shaped their lives in ways they continue to cherish.

For them, she was more than a national figure.

She was their guide, their example and the source of stories and memories that will stay with them forever.

Standing before family, friends and dignitaries, they described her as a constant light whose strength and warmth influenced the way they see the world.

Their words painted the picture of a grandmother who could be both fearless and gentle, someone whose presence filled a room and whose quiet guidance shaped their confidence and character.

One line from their tribute captured the depth of their admiration: “She is and will always be my hero.”

They reflected on the lessons she passed down, especially her belief that young women should meet life with courage and a clear sense of self.

They remembered how she encouraged them to value their individuality and to move through the world with confidence, teaching them that womanhood carries resilience, grace, humour and power.

Her bright personality and expressive style, they said, made everyday moments with her unforgettable.

They also celebrated her influence on Ghana’s cultural life, from her leadership roles in national affairs to her championing of storytelling through the beloved programme “By the Fireside”.

Nana Konadu’s legacy extends well beyond her years as First Lady. As a pioneering advocate for women and founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, she helped shape national conversations about leadership and identity.

To her grandchildren, though, her truest legacy lives in the love she offered and the lessons she left behind.
