Shatta Movement is not a violent group, we motivate the youth – Shatta Wale
Dancehall artiste and leader of the Shatta Movement (SM), Shatta Wale has described the Shatta Movement as a youth empowerment group.
Charles Nii Armah Mensah, as he is known in real life, said the violent tag and perception people have about the movement is just a brand image but does not reflect the true mission of the group.
Shatta Wale said, the movement trains and empowers its members through workshops on how to be self-sufficient and reliant.
“If you attend any of our seminars, you will learn a few things about lighting and camera handling among others. We are not a violent movement as many have touted us to be,” he said.
Explaining why the movement comes across as a violent movement, Shatta Wale said, the violent image of the movement is a brand created to encourage people that they can always self-motivate themselves.
“ You know most Ghanaians are born with timidity and fear and so they tend to be skeptical in their dealings. But I want to teach the youth that you can always do it yourself, you can move things yourself by not necessarily disrespecting people but using respectful means to move things in a positive way,” he said
In an interview monitored by The Ghana Report, Shatta Wale added that though he is touted to be rowdy and troublesome, he is always careful with his actions.
“People tend to call me rowdy but mind you, the people that I deal with on social media are those who step on my toes, I don’t just pick on people,” he disclosed.
