President John Dramani Mahama has called on businesses to support the country’s economic recovery by adjusting prices to reflect the recent appreciation of the cedi.
Speaking at the 9th Ghana CEO Summit and Awards Expo, President Mahama commended companies and organisations that have already reduced prices, singling out the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for its decision to lower transport fares.
“GPRTU, thank you very much, and to those who haven’t responded yet, please pass on some of the cedi appreciation to Ghanaians,” he said.
He stressed that the government will continue to maintain a stable and business-friendly environment.
“On the government’s part, I want to assure you that we will maintain the current fiscal discipline and create a conducive climate for your businesses to thrive.”
The president’s remarks come amid signs of macroeconomic stabilisation, with the cedi registering steady gains against major foreign currencies in recent weeks.
He praised businesses that have already responded to the stronger cedi by reducing prices, noting that such actions help alleviate the cost-of-living burden on ordinary citizens.
“I commend those of you who have reduced your prices in line with the cedi’s appreciation—your efforts are helping pass on some relief to Ghanaians,” he added.
Mr. Mahama’s special recognition of the GPRTU underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between government and private sector actors in supporting national recovery.
The transport union’s move to cut fares was widely welcomed as a timely step toward easing pressure on commuters.
