The National Chief Imam, Shaikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has reiterated the legitimacy of Shaikh Ali Muniru as the Volta Regional Imam, in light of the shooting incident that occurred on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the Ho Central Mosque.
In a statement released on Monday, December 29, and endorsed by the Personal Assistant to the National Chief Imam, Dr Abubakar Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo, His Eminence emphasised that the violent occurrence arose from a leadership issue that had already been resolved regarding the Volta Regional Imamship. He affirmed that Shaikh Muniru is the officially recognised Regional Imam, with Shaikh Anas acting as his Deputy.
The National Chief Imam stated that the appointment of Shaikh Muniru was not forced upon the community but resulted from thorough consultation and mediation, rendering the ongoing dispute both unnecessary and unacceptable.
His Eminence expressed his disappointment that a settled issue had escalated into violence within a sacred worship space, characterising the incident as contrary to Islamic teachings and values.
Referring to both clerics as his children, the National Chief Imam conveyed his expectation for unity, mutual respect, and collaboration from them in their service to Allah and the Muslim community. He also urged their supporters to remain law-abiding and to seek peace in alignment with Islamic principles.
The National Chief Imam additionally called upon the Ghana Police Service to conduct investigations into the incident with fairness and impartiality, cautioning that selective justice erodes trust and exacerbates tensions.
He concluded by praying for the swift recovery of those injured and advocating for reconciliation among all parties, referencing the Quranic injunction that believers are brothers who must strive for peace and unity.
