Several structures destroyed as fire ravages slum in North Kaneshie

A fire erupted in a slum behind the Ashfoam office in North Kaneshie, Accra, destroying multiple wooden structures and properties.

The incident which occurred on Monday, October 23, around 8 a.m., rapidly consumed three wooden structures and their contents.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Although community members initially attempted to control the fire, officials from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) later arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames.

ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the GNFS highlighted the challenges the fire service faces due to aging equipment and resource limitations.

He urged the government, individuals, and corporate organizations to expedite efforts in providing essential fire service logistics.

This call comes as the festive season approaches, a time when an increased number of fire incidents are typically recorded.

Mr Nartey stressed that without additional fire tenders and improved resources, Ghana could face difficulties in responding to a surge in fire-related emergencies during the Christmas period.
