Several injured in Accra-Aflao highway crash

A minibus crash on the Accra-Aflao Highway near Awalavi in the Ketu North Municipality has left several passengers injured and receiving medical care.

The 15-seater minibus, travelling from Accra towards Aflao, reportedly lost control after a back tyre burst. The vehicle, which was moving at high speed, veered off its lane and slammed into a roadside metal structure.

Emmanuel Awudza, who witnessed the incident from his nearby rice farm, said he heard a loud bang just before the vehicle swerved.

“I was on my rice farm when I heard the sound of a tyre bursting. Within seconds, the vehicle lost control and hit the metal on the roadside,” he said.

According to Mr Awudza, both the driver and several passengers suffered injuries to their heads, arms and legs. Locals rushed to help before police arrived, transporting the injured to Weta Hospital.

Businesswoman Sandra Mileba, a passenger on board, shared her experience with reporters. “We boarded the vehicle at the Tema roundabout heading to Aflao. I can’t really tell how it all happened, but we thank God there’s been no death so far.”

She also mentioned that some passengers lost valuable items, including phones, and called on the public to assist the police with information.

The Ghana Police Service has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
