A police officer has been shot dead by a senior police officer after an argument between the two.
Constable David Gbati was allegedly shot while travelling with the senior officer to Awaso in the Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai Municipality in the Western North Region on Friday evening.
It is reported that the senior officer who shot Constable Gbati was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital morgue.
Meanwhile, the suspect, ASP Frank Nsiah, has been detained at the Sefwi Bekwai Police Station for further investigations.
The police in the Western Region have since launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of the young officer.
A police clinical psychologist has also been assigned to the family to support them through this difficult time.
An official statement issued by the Ghana Police Service, signed by the Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, confirmed the incident.
The incident has once again brought concerns about the conduct of some police officers and calls for the Ghana Police Service to take more decisive action to address issues of misconduct and indiscipline within the service.
