Selena Gomez admits she’s ‘bitter’ over constant criticism of her weight
Selena Gomez has admitted she’s “bitter” over the constant criticism she receives surrounding her weight.
The actress stepped out in a custom midnight blue Celine gown at the 2025 SAG Awards last month, and trolls quickly took to social media to comment on her weight loss.
Speaking on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast alongside her fiancé, Benny Blanco, Selena said, “It doesn’t add anything to your life.”
She continued: “It’s just so difficult from the choices, the people you date. It’s like nobody cares about that stuff with men. I think we just carry a lot.”
The Only Murders in the Building star explained that her weight “is a big one too,” and “everybody just has something to say, and it’s making me sad.”
“Not even sad – no, I’m not a victim – but I think it’s made me a tad bitter. And I feel guilty for saying that. But it’s true.”
Selena has been open in the past about her battle with lupus and is not afraid to clap back at haters who comment on her weight fluctuating.
“This isn’t news to anybody that women have a lot more intense feelings from their appearance, to what they are wearing, to everything,” she said.
She explained that when she’s getting ready for an event, “90 percent of the time I’m saying, ‘I just hope I can take the picture and sit down.’”
“It’s the character that gets judged. It’s the way I’m not white enough… I’m not Mexican enough. There are just so many different things that come up in my face that I just can’t help but see. I fall victim to looking at things. It doesn’t add anything to your life.”
The 32-year-old shared that the best thing she can do to ward off online trolls and negative comments is to ignore them.
“I’m just happier that I don’t have that. I had to stop after a while. And I still take breaks because I’m human, and sometimes I read things… But I do most of the time ignore everything. I don’t have anything on my phone at the moment. So, there are ways to combat it.”
Selena then went on to explain that after facing so much hate and negativity, she’s come to truly accept love – especially when it’s coming from Benny.
“He’s the one person, you know when you’re saying those nice things to me babe, I believe him,” said the Love Song singer.
“To where I’m not going to believe someone who is blowing smoke up my butt to just make me feel good. He’s saying it because he believes it, and that makes me feel good.”
The music producer proposed last December while they enjoyed a Taco Bell picnic, and Selena shared the news online by saying: “Forever begins now.”
