Sekondi sachet water producers to sell a bag at GH¢8 instead of GH¢10

Sekondi-Takoradi Zonal Association of Sachet Water Producers has agreed to sell a bag at GH¢8 instead of the nationwide GH¢10 price.

They decided after a crunch meeting on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.

The Association says this is to ensure customers can purchase their products in higher quantities.

“We have agreed to sell the product at GH¢8 within Sekondi-Takoradi and its environs. We considered so many things, as we are all aware that things are hard for all of us. We think that will be too much to bear if you ask the ordinary Ghanaian to buy a bag of sachet water at GH¢10.

“So, at the meeting, we asked our accountants to do the maths and see at what level we can sell and break even without necessarily making a profit. They arrived at GH¢8. At this particular moment, we don’t want to talk about profit. All that is needed is for the business to stay afloat and be sustainable,” the Zonal Chairman of the Association, Samuel Borlu, said.

However, he said the price could change depending on new changes in the price of their production materials.

“When we started this year, a kilo of the roll we use was being sold at GH¢17. But as we speak, it is now GH¢36. What we are observing is the market. If the price remains the same, then we will keep the price at GH¢8. But if it goes up, then we may be forced to sell even beyond the announced GH¢10,” he added.

The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) increased the sachet and bottled water prices on Monday, October 31, 2022.

NASPAWAP explained that this was to cushion producers on the effect of the ever-rising production cost.

Based on this, sachet water is now selling at ¢0.60.

A bag of sachet water (500m1 x 30 sachets) now sells at ¢10.00 from the retail trucks as ex truck price.

The 500ml bottled water retails at ¢2.50 while the medium-sized bottled water is going for ¢3.50, and the 1.5 litres bottled water is selling at ¢5.

It, however, cautioned that there might be slight variations across regions and towns due to haulage to remote and distant areas and other overheads.
