Sefa: Doing secular music doesn’t mean we don’t believe in God

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Sefadzi Abena Amesu, popularly known as Sefa, has said that doing secular music doesn’t mean the artists does not believe in God.

Secular music is music that is intended for a non-religious audience, while sacred music serves a particular religious purpose in both Catholic and Protestant Christian traditions.

Speaking on Asaase 995 Rush Hour, Sefa said, “The fact that you see somebody doing secular music does not mean that you don’t believe in God or they don’t believe in a creation in life.”

“You have to believe in something and most people don’t like to throw their spirituality or religion on people’s faces because God is in the heart; it’s not about doing too much outside,” she told show host Elvis Crystal.

Taking a break
According to her, she took some time off to work on herself.

“… I’m somebody who keeps to herself a lot, so when something gets too much for me I just withdraw and I felt like it got to a point whereby I didn’t even know who I was anymore.”

She added that she focused too much on trying to please everybody and forgot to take care of herself.

“But I found out that I was losing myself. I had to sit down and ask myself, what do you really want. Do you really want to continue doing this, so I mean it hasn’t been easy but I’m trying.”

She added that self-acceptance can sometimes be very challenging, “especially when you have done so much for the people, you’ve shown the people what they want to see now you want to accept yourself.”

Sefa has recently released a new track featuring Camido, “All over”.
