Seek multiple sources of income – Actors advised
Ghanaian actor Ken Fiati says it is challenging to live by only acting and advises colleagues to take up other jobs.
The rate at which actors have been soliciting financial assistance in the public space has increased recently, which has aroused a discussion about the film industry’s progress.
According to Fiati, who is the Head of the Technical Committee of the Ghana Actors Guild, the state of the industry makes it difficult for actors to depend solely on their craft to earn a good and comfortable living.
“In principle, I think it would be good for actors to get an addition of a day job while pursuing their passion. You cannot live just by acting”.
“So, what I am saying is that actors should get multiple streams of income because, with the
kind of industry we have, you cannot live with just the act of filmmaking,” Fiati told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
Veteran actor, Psalm Adjeteyfio, has been trending for asking for support to survive due to financial difficulties.
Mr Adjeteyfio revealed he has been battling heart disease.
Many notable persons reached out to him to support his rent and medical bills.
Vice President, Dr Bawumia, made a cash donation of Ghc50,000 to the actor. Business mogul McDan also gave the actor Ghc5,000.00.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, offered to help by paying him a monthly stipend of Ghc1,500.00.
