The leading opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) will today elect national officers to run the party for the next four years.
It is estimated that about 9,000 accredited delegates will partake in the two-day event to be held at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The party is facing perhaps its biggest internal battle in the race to elect a National Chairman of the party as the incumbent Ofosu Ampofo who is seeking re-election battles it out against Samuel Yaw Adusei, Nii Armah Ashitey and the party’s General Secretary for 17 years, Mr Asiedu Nketia.
There are other national executive positions such as the General Secretary and National Organiser that also promise to be hotly contested.
The General Secretary position has three leading members of the party, namely the incumbent Deputy General Secretary, Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor; the National Elections Director, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, and a former Minister of State, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
The National Organiser position will also be contested by five personalities. They are the incumbent, Joshua Hamidu Akamba, Henry Osei Akoto, Mahdi Mohammed Gibril, Sidii Abubakari and Solomon Yaw Nkansah.
Meanwhile, the party’s National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, will have the opportunity to retain his position as he goes unopposed.
The National Women’s Organizer and Youth Organizer positions were voted last week in which the party retained both Hannah Bissiw and Opare Addo respectively.
