The management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital has confirmed that one of its security officers was assaulted while on duty, describing the event as “deeply regrettable”.
The incident took place on February 18, 2026, at approximately 7:28 p.m. in the Labour Ward.
According to hospital officials, the security officer directed an 18-year-old visitor, Gabriel Dimson, who was with his mother and a friend, to relocate to the reception area, as it was not allowed to stand at the ward entrance outside of approved visiting hours.
Mr. Dimson reportedly refused to comply, pushed the officer to the ground, and physically attacked him. The officer lost consciousness but was promptly attended to by the doctors on duty.
He is currently hospitalised and is said to be responding well to treatment.
The incident has been reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command.
The suspect has been arrested, and authorities are carrying out investigations for prosecution.
Hospital management has stressed that violence against staff will not be tolerated.
“Our security officers play a critical role in enforcing hospital policies designed to protect patients, visitors, and healthcare workers,” the statement indicated.
The public has been encouraged to cooperate with hospital staff and adhere to established guidelines, including visiting protocols, to ensure a safe and orderly healthcare environment.
