SECTECH student stabbed during Koforidua inter-schools sports festival

Chaos erupted at the Eastern Regional Inter-Schools Sports Festival in Koforidua after a Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH) student was stabbed, raising fears of retaliatory attacks and prompting heightened security measures.

The victim, Jerome Appiah, a Form Two student of SECTECH, was reportedly attacked by some Form Two students of New Juaben Senior High School while eating waakye on his way to campus.

He sustained a deep machete wound to the shoulder and was bleeding heavily.

Police from the Eastern Regional Command quickly arrived at the scene and rushed Appiah to the Eastern Regional Hospital, where he is now receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

In response to the stabbing, the Headmaster of Koforidua SECTECH, Emmanuel Frimpong Benjabeng, along with other teachers, went to the venue of the sports festival at the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre to prevent potential retaliatory attacks by upset students.

Mr. Benjabeng had been attending a meeting with the New Juaben South Municipal Education Director, Mustapha Haruna Appiah, when further disturbances were reported.

The teacher of SECTECH, Henry Kudiabor, was also injured, reportedly suffering a cut to the head after being struck by a flying stone during clashes involving students of Nsutam Senior High Technical School.

The New Juaben South Municipal Education Director, Mustapha Haruna Appiah, expressed concern over the recurring violence and called on the police and festival organisers to investigate the incidents thoroughly and strengthen security to prevent further attacks.
