Veteran Journalist, Kwesi Pratt, has charged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to sanitise the security service.

Speaking at the one-year anniversary of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence, Mr Pratt said, the display of ineptitude by party fanatics cloth in National Security uniform on January 31, 2019, shows the weakness in the country’s security system.

According to him, the Ayawaso West Wuogon incident is the first by-election violence that had the support of the government officials

“We need an overhaul of the security system because what happened in Ayawaso West Wuogon has never happened in our history, hoodlums came in-state vehicles. They came disguised as National Security personnel and they were supported by ministers who justify the actions,” ” he said

” People in positions were behind the violence and it does not speak well for our democracy” he noted

Other leaders of the NDC had their turn at the event.

The by-election was marred by a shooting incident at the residence of Mr Kwasi Delali Brempong, the NDC candidate, which resulted in injuries to 18 persons.

An observer at one of the polling stations was also assaulted.

At the La Bawaleshie School Park, the NDC MP for Ningo Prampram, Mr Samuel Nartey George, who was observing the elections, was assaulted by one Mohammed Suleiman, a National Security operative.

The incident also resulted in the NDC directing its agents to withdraw from the various polling stations.
