Samuel Eto’o carried out an illegal coup- Marc Brys blasts Cameroon Football President

Recently sacked head coach of Cameroon’s National Men’s Football Team, Marc Brys, has launched a huge verbal attack on Cameroon Football Federation President Samuel Eto’o Fils.

According to Sporza, the Belgian coach believes Eto’o’s successful retention as Cameroon President was illegitimate and further described it as an illegal coup.

Brys was sacked from his role by the Cameroon Federation just 20 days before the start of the 2025 AFCON that the Indomitable Lions will compete in, on grounds of subterfuge and unprofessionalism.

The former OH Leuven head coach’s sack was one of a series of moves made by the Cameroon Federation that had David Pagou take over as head coach and Andre Onana dropped from the country’s squad for the AFCON.

In the wake of his dismissal, Brys hit back at football legend Eto’o who was retained as President of the country’s football federation by saying,

“Samuel Eto’o was extended for four more years. In fact, there wasn’t even another candidate. In my view, he drew strength from this situation to carry out an illegal and ridiculous coup.”

“He removed all positions…including the technical staff of the national team and filled them with people of his choosing. Firing everyone without valid reasons seems completely illegal to me” Brys said.
