Communications Minister Sam George has ordered the dismissal of almost 100 employees of Ghana Post Limited, citing recruitment irregularities that took place after the December 7, 2024, election.

According to the minister, the affected employees were hired without following proper procedures, prompting his decision to rectify the situation.

“If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies, and 600 were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess. So, the rationalisation is ongoing,” Sam George told the press on Tuesday.

He further confirmed that close to 100 dismissals had been authorised at Ghana Post, stating, “Today, I have authorised a termination of a few more at Ghana Post, almost 100 that were done post-election.”

The Ningo-Prampram MP stressed that his primary goal is to streamline operations within the Communications Ministry by removing inefficiencies caused by improper recruitment.

“I am on a mission to clean up the ministry to ensure it is lean and efficient and carries out its work properly,” he asserted.

This move aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to reverse post-election employment in the public sector, claiming that many of these appointments bypassed standard recruitment procedures.
